There are three thirteen year old boys in my house right now.

In theory they're working on their science project. Their teacher is doing something really cool. He's broken up the class up into small groups, given them a topic and they're going to teach the rest of their class for a week. I love this assignment - I think it's brilliant. These guys have chosen the skeletal and muscular systems and have been working hard - but now they're pestering me for pizza, pop and a guitar hero break. As long as I don't have to hear "Rock You Like a Hurricane," we're all good.

Off to feed the masses and then back to the WIP.

Who Would You Choose?

I'm doing research for my new story, and I've got a question for everyone.

Given the opportunity to meet any artist, be it painter, musician/composer or writer (past or present...or both) who would it be and why? Feel free to list as many as you want.

In terms of present artists, I'd like to meet...

Brian Froud - his paintings and drawing amaze me and I'd love to watch him work.
Charles deLint - I love his stories. I'd love to talk to him about his inspiration and his process.
Angela Knight - Mostly, I'd just want to bow down to her genius.
Joss Whedon - Again, bowing would be in order - the man has it all - dialogue, plotting, world building. I heart him.
Adam Duritz of Counting Crows - The man is a brilliant lyricist and composer - probably in need of copious amounts of anti-depressants, but I adore him anyway.
Kate Rusby - I love her music, and she seems like she'd be fun to hang out with.

Past artists would include...

Arthur Rackham - His work inspired some of my favorite present day artists.
John Waterhouse - Predictably, I love Pre-Rhaphalite art.
Jim Henson - I adore the Muppets, not to mention Labyrinth and Dark Crystal.
The Bronte sisters - I'm imagining they were the products of a relatively dysfunctional household - I'm sure we'd have a great time.
Lord Byron - I'd just like to see the man in action.
Mozart - Maybe I've seen Amadeus too many times, but I'm betting he'd be interesting.

So...who would you choose?

I Heart Rachel C.

I'm soooooo excited! I just got a fabulous 5 Angel review from Rachel C. at Fallen Angels Reviews! I love a great review as much as the next writer, but this story is very close to my heart, so the awesome reviews mean even more to me. Here's the part I liked best. :)

Best Laid Plans is a fast paced romance between two individuals with enough baggage to take a month long holiday. Every aspect of Zander and Tessa is alive and breathing on the pages, Bronwyn Green leaves no flaw, no matter how ugly, hidden. I loved the way they interact, it’s real and gritting, and the chemistry is hot. They’re drawing closer together even when their arguing and pushing each other away. I don’t know how she does it, but it’s a faultless glide that takes no effort to believe. With the added conflict of Zander’s job and Tessa’s stalker, the story has you on the edge of your seat waiting for the next thing to happen. And even when you think you know what it is, Ms. Green surprises you. Her skill at bringing the story to life is enviable. Vivid images flash through your mind as you read her words. Tessa is a hero that every one will love, she’s strong and tough but soft and vulnerable at the same time, very few authors can pull that off but Ms. Green does it with ease. Zander is a hunk and makes me want to head back to school if only all the professors were like him. No tweed coats in sight. Best Laid Plans is a wonderful book full of romance and suspense, and with every twist and turn you hold your breath, waiting for the next scene to unfold. I found this book so enjoyable it’ll be one of the ones I read again and again. After this I’d have no problems buying a book just because it has Bronwyn Green’s name on the cover.

Half Way There

Halloween Costume Update:

Wendy Darling, Tinker Thug...I mean Tinker Bell and the Goth Gypsy are done, as is the emergency replacement Dorothy Gale blouse.

The Dwarf has suddenly morphed into an executioner - or a 'headsman' as my child so quaintly calls it - and should require virtually no sewing.

The weird Naruto anime thing is partially cut out, but I have to go back to the fabric store to get more pieces and parts and I haven't even cut out the Vampire Princess yet.

Unfortunately, I got hit with the stomach flu last night so sewing today ought to be...um...interesting, to say the least. Yep...right on schedule for the sewing frenzy (the next one will be scheduled the week before Christmas)

Today it's the Goth Gypsy for one of my daycare kids.
Tomorrow Wendy and Tinker Bell for my sister-in-law and niece.
Saturday a dwarf (unfortunately not the Snow White kind - we're looking at a LOTR type dwarf) for my youngest son.
Sunday will be some freaky anime creature for my oldest son.
Monday will be a vampire princess for one of my other daycare kids.

Some of these will probably take a bit longer, so at least I've got some wiggle room. Of course, my youngest son wants a matching costum for his raggedy, stuffed kitty he carries everywhere. In the last few years, kitty has been a pirate, Spidercat, a jawa and a miner.

So - is anyone else making costumes? If you have kids or grandkids, what are they going to be for Halloween. What about you guys - anyone dressing up?

It could have been worse

On Saturday, Brynn Paulin, Jennifer Armintrout, Cheryl Sterling and I gave a presentation at our local library as part of their Celebration of the Book festival. Our talk was supposed to be about the Diversity and Misconceptions of the Romance Genre, but we only touched on a few misconceptions before it turned into a writing workshop of sorts.

Despite the fact that I would have liked to address more of the misconceptions, I consider the entire experience a rousing success anyway.

We had a much larger audience than I'd expected including my baby sister, Cait who drove down from college to see us, and my littlest minion, An who called in sick to work to see us.

I didn't throw up due to nerves.

I think I only babbled incoherently twice - public speaking wigs me out and I occasionally say wildly inappropriate things.

And best of all, the two snide questions regarding the validity of epubblishing and literary fiction vs. genre fiction were handled beautifully by Brynn and Jen respectively.

Also, I think we might have garnered some potential members for out monthly RWA meetings.

Still, I'm glad it's over. :)

Yet Another Sign of the Coming Apocalypse

I have the illustrious Margaret to thank for this little gem.

Apparently, there is a Hello Kitty machine gun. Yep...you read that right. An honest to God, machine gun. One that shoots bullets. Real bullets.

I have but one question. WTF??? No, really - wtf?

This lovely AK-47 is made by Glambo. No...I didn't make that up.

Please note the hand crocheted stock cover - just what every fashionable assassin needs.

http://www.glamguns.com/hk47.html

You've Got to be Kidding Me...

Okay, so I was scanning through the web news as I'm wont to do on a Sunday morning, and I see this headline: Dentist Claims Breast Rubs Appropriate and I think to myself, obviously this can't be what it looks like - the author is clearly trying to drum up hits to the article.

I'm here to tell you I could not be more wrong. Some dentist in Woodland, CA has been accused of fondling the breasts of 27 female patients. Better yet, he's claiming that these "breast rubs" were essentially therapeutic massages for the treatment of TMJ.

Yeah-huh.

As if the audacity of this asshat wasn't enough to make my head spin, he's insisting that he be allowed to continue practicing dentistry in order to pay for his defense and feed his seven children. (threw up in my mouth a little when I read that) I feel absolutely terrible for his poor wife and kids, but come on! This guy needs his licence yanked now.

Just when I thought I couldn't be more surprised, I got to the last paragraph of the article. Apparently, there's a 31-year-old patient who's recently complained that she was fondled 6 times in the last 2 years. She's said that she'd taken to wearing tight shirts with high necklines and he still got under her bra. Fwuh?!

Here's my question...if you're being groped by your dentist and you don't like it, why in God's name would you continue to make appointments with this perv? Call the cops, or at the very least...change dentists!

If you want to be amazed...dumbfounded...baffled (or the adjective of your choice) here's the link to the article: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071013/ap_on_fe_st/odd_accused_dentist
